Overtime Mode is a Dead Rising 2 game mode.

Overtime Mode is unlocked by giving Tyrone King Zombrex during 72 Hour Mode. It is a continuation of the story in 72 Hour Mode.

Chuck cannot find Katey as the survivors are leaving on a helicopter. He lets the helicopter leave, and returns to the Safe House. As Chuck realizes Katey and Stacey missing, he receives a call from Tyrone, and the game goes into Overtime and extra 24 game hours of game play.

If Chuck wants to see Katey and Stacey again, he needs to run a series of fetch-quests for Tyrone around Fortune City. This mode culminates in a boss-fight with Tyrone himself. After collecting all the items, Chuck must go to the Arena. He is knocked out, and wakes up faced with fighting Tyrone, unarmed, while Stacey and Katey are being winched down to a crowd of zombies. Defeating Tyrone results in the best ending, Ending S.

Fetch quests[]

Some of the items make sense (incriminating photographs, flashdrives of data), others are not so sensible such as Sullivan's phone headset, gift basket, a box of ridiculously-placed Cigars. The default course plotted by the guide arrow works, but can be less effective than if the player uses their head and has knowledge of shortcuts (e.g. the shortcut through the Hot Excitorama, which results in a mostly hassle-free trip to the secret lab to get the "box of queens".)

In Overtime Mode, Chuck does not need to worry about Zombrex injections; Tyrone injects Katey for him at 7 am.

In this mode, time is not really much of an issue. There are no side-cases in this mode. It should be possible to have the entire list completed before Katey even needs an injection.

Battling Tyrone[]

Mixed Juices continue to work after the introduction battle cutscene

TIP
Just before entering the main arena at the door, Chuck can drink a mixed juice. When he wakes up, the mixed drink will last normally, giving Chuck an extra edge. Pain Killer is recommended because it lasts a long time. A blender can be found in next door Americana Casino in Shots & Awe (center of the casino).

This mode culminates in a boss-fight with Tyrone himself. After collecting all the items, Chuck must go to the Arena. He is knocked out, and wakes up faced with fighting Tyrone, unarmed, while Stacey and Katey are being winched down to a crowd of zombies. Chuck can winch the pair back up to buy more time, but should beware Tyrone's attacks, which are likely to knock him down, and result in Tyrone beating him while he is down.

There is limited food, although Chuck may find Orange Juice or Snacks in the Cardboard Box in the area. Also the TIR Helmet which can be found in the area; the TIR version of the Moosehead.

To beat Tyrone, Chuck can either beat him to death hand to hand, or bludgeon him to death with the various weapons on the platform. TK will respond by bashing Chuck with his Microphone, or if Chuck is unreachable, shooting Chuck with a gun. If Chuck strays out of the central winching area (for example, to get the TIR helmet) Tyrone will deploy a non-stop cycle of fireworks until Chuck gets out of the ring.

Defeating Tyrone results in the best ending, Ending S.

Trivia[]

  • If Chuck takes until 7:00 A.M., T.K. will call to tell Chuck that Katey has received her daily dose of Zombrex as he still wanted her alive for “the show”.
  • Before confronting T.K., it is recommended to save at the closest restroom as if Chuck dies or fails to save the girls during the final battle, it will be restarted.
